Tuning Up
Alirna Korieva is a passionate violinist and vocalist from Uzbekistan, currently based in the United States. Her musical journey started at just five years old, fueled by curiosity and dedication. This early passion guided her through advanced studies at the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan and eventually led her to Michigan State University, where she is currently completing her Doctor of Musical Arts in Violin Performance under
Professor Dmitri Berlinsky.
Throughout her career, Alirna has been fortunate to perform with acclaimed ensembles such as the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, Soloists of Uzbekistan, Turkistan Chamber Orchestra, and the innovative Omnibus Ensemble. Her performances have earned her international recognition, including First Prize at the Akhmet Zhubanov International Competition of Young Performers in Kazakhstan and the prestigious Grand Prix at the International Competition of Young Performers named after Alexander Glazunov in France. Alirna loves exploring the musical world through festivals, performing at events like the Turbulenzen Festival in Germany, Weimarer Frühjahrstage Festival, and Bang on a Can in the USA.
With a deep appreciation for both classical and contemporary music, Alirna is constantly expanding her artistic horizons, especially embracing jazz as a vocalist. She actively performs at notable jazz festivals such as the East Lansing Jazz Festival, Notre Dame Jazz Festival, and Elmhurst Jazz Festival, and she is a featured singer with Jazz Orchestra 2 at Michigan State University. Her collaborative spirit has driven her involvement in international projects like “Playing Together,” connecting musicians across Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and beyond. Additionally, she enjoys taking on creative leadership roles, notably as Project Manager for “The International Composition Workshop” at the Peabody Institute and as Artist-in-Residence for the Tuba Bach Festival in 2024.
In 2024, Alirna was honored as the First Place Winner of the American Protégé International Music Talent Competition and is preparing to perform at the prestigious Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in May 2025.
Teaching and More
Teaching remains at the heart of Alirna’s musical life. She has spent over a decade inspiring students of all ages in Uzbekistan, Europe, and the United States. Currently, she enjoys sharing her experience at Marshall Music Co. Presto String Program in Lansing elementary schools, and she is proudly affiliated with the Sphinx Organization.
When not teaching or performing solo, Alirna collaborates with esteemed orchestras such as the Midland Symphony Orchestra, Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, and Flint Symphony Orchestra. Balancing classical traditions and her growing passion for jazz, Alirna continues to inspire audiences and students alike, creating music that transcends borders and resonates deeply with listeners worldwide.
